Harith Bakar

Harith Bakar is the Deputy Director, Equities (Corporate Finance & Investments) of the Securities Commission (SC) Malaysia. In his current role, he is primarily responsible for assessing the suitability of proposals submitted to the SC for issues and offerings of equity securities, listings of corporations and quotations of securities on Bursa Malaysia’s Main Market and other proposals which result in a significant change in the business direction or policy of corporations listed on the Main Market. He has been with the SC since 2014 and his previous experience in the SC was as of Head of Inspection for the SC’s Audit Oversight Board. Prior to that, his experience was primarily in the external audits of a variety of organisations in the hospitality, pharmaceutical, media, technology, telecommunications and energy space. He had a long stint working for a Big 4 firm in the UK and Ireland as well as a number of years in a local Big 4 firm.

Harith graduated with a degree in Accounting & Finance from Liverpool John Moores University and is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK and currently represents the SC as a Council Member on the Malaysian Institute of Accountants.
